Mashable: BBC journalist’s tweet causes panic over Queen’s health.
BBC, a precipitate “Queen sacrifice” will only rarely win you a chess game ...

Two more similar events came to my synchronous attention this week:
1. The chocolate study fraud designed to detail and explain just how corruptible our scientific journalism has become.
2. NPR’s interview with Adrian Chen on Russian news trolls, demonstrating the susceptibility of our “capitalized” news rooms to spoofing.
#1 demonstrates that anyone with a checkbook can create what looks like a verifiable scientific trail for any lie one wants to tell.
#2 demonstrates that Russia, and anyone else, can completely hijack our news feeds on a temporary basis.
“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” from Churchill has been shortened to minutes and policy decisions are increasingly made using CNN and other sources.
If the potential to do short-term manipulation on the inputs to your decision makers doesn’t worry you, consider the ability to manipulate your financial markets ala Mr. Navinder Singh Sarao who drove a trillion dollar movement over less than 30 minutes in the U. S. stock markets by trading in the futures market.
Any reason we can think of that manipulation of our financial markets wouldn’t be considered retribution for financial sanctions imposed on Russia?
Can we think of anyone else that might benefit from the ability to crash our “too big to fail” financial houses?
Really good analysis of why the Columbia Chemical story didn’t get more traction:

Busy through Monday - I’ll have to reserve checking all this out early next week. Sorry for the delay. A sudden Saturday ‘thing’ came up, alongside a Sunday ‘thing’, and all need preparations ....

Funny you should mention a queen sacrifice winning a chess game. Just read a great story about this (from Dec 2012)
