Fifteen seconds of fame?

The Corner at the National Review credits me with the possibility of first using the term ‘blogotry.’    When I first joined this bizarre little pastime, we all were busily prepending “blog-” to just about every word in the English lexicon ... manufacturing self-importance—and self-absorption.  We needed it then, a playful positive attitude, to keep the ball rolling.

Do we still need it?

Calling ourselves ‘blog-‘anything reflects a certain immaturity that may be apropos to the youth of the medium and the mildly tolerated overexuberance of bigoted devotees, but for myself ... the ‘blog-‘ing is becoming tedious.  I believe I’ll swear off it.  I already have replaced ‘blogosphere’ with ‘metacosm,’ prefering a more highbrow term that sounded less like something you extract during sinus drainage.

That’s why Philly Future is “Philly Future” and not “phillyblogs.com” (which I happen to own and not use).  I knew this day was going to come sooner or later.
