Out here on the Dog’s Back (Hunsrück), the power was out for what felt like about half an hour. When the power came back on, I had to re-programm the controller for our underfloor heating. Fortunately, that was the only problem caused by the outage in our household.

It seems that they now have a lead concerning the cause of the outage which affected about 10 million people: A wharf (whose server seems to be down at the moment) in Northern Germany was due to transfer their latest ship, the Norwegian Pearl from the wharf to the North Sea. Normally the big power lines are switched off while a ship like this travels under them, and when the power company tried to shut off a 380 000 V power line, the blackout occured. At least that is what Spiegel online says (Babelfish translation).
