The Economist: Globalisation and junk: The death of built to last.
“Obviously, the Dutch revenue model in building these pumps was completely nuts. My father-in-law probably hasn’t bought a bicycle pump in 50 years. I’ve bought like three in the past three years.” Only nuts if the consensus of ‘success’ is to make money and increase the amount of volume in landfills. Unfortunately, this seems to be the dominant paradigm of modern capitalism today.
