NM Fire Updates, July 2.

SF New Mexican: Las Conchas Fire spares some stands along uneven path of destruction. Most remain unaware that any wildfire has a significant kick in the a$$ post-burn. Flooding/Erosion. This’ll be an education for some of you: “In Water Canyon above N.M. 501, a rainstorm a few weeks after the Cerro Grande Fire was contained sent a runoff of 840 cubic feet per second flooding downstream, compared to the maximum 0.3 cubic feet per second before the fire, according to hydrologists at Los Alamos National Laboratory.” My emphases. All of these fires are a long way from being completely ‘over.’

SF New Mexican: Weather, favorable fire movement help crews turn corner riding into Day 7. “Officials say the Las Conchas Fire likely started when a tree limb hit a power line on private property near mile marker 35 on N.M. 4.”
