It’s always interesting

to see what favicons Firefox will randomly pick up and tag favorites with in my personal toolbar each day.  Changes on a daily basis, it seems, with no input from me.  My photo.net link has been tagged with the Drupal.org favicon ... last week, that ugly SiteMeter favicon was on my WordPress Post link.

This has been a bug forever!  I think it may be related to switching between tabs while a page is loading: open one link, switch tabs, and when the first link gets loaded, its icon is added to the second tab. And if it’s a bookmarked link, the wrong icon gets saved with that bookmark.

I only had one icon changing, a certain biohazard icon invariably turned into that of NYT…

That’s why I turned off the favicons entirely. My own site ended up with a Google icon on a regular basis. It’s pointless.
