There’s about 30 of them breaking everything up with pick-axes and hoes. They’ve put their Kalashnikovs down by their side. These are shocking scenes for the people in Timbuktu.

Sigh. I am so sick of the term Islamists. If a purist is someone passionate about the purity or authenticity of something, wouldn’t a Islamist be concerned about the purity or authenticity of the religion? Yet what these separatists did violate everything about Islam.

Let’s call them by their true names: militants. Radicals. Extremists. Haters. grin
