Though his face be better than any man’s, it’s not the Bard. The disagreement seems to focus on dress, not any more decisive than the ‘WS’ in my opinion. Who’s to say that portrait creators were any less astute profit-takers than today? Many of those who offer portraits offer a selection of clothes and accessories to doll one’s self up above one’s social class.
