As a former member of the military, they advanced several arguments against torture against the unlikely possibility that we would ever find ourselves in such a position of power over a prisoner:
Understand there is an implied peer relationship in prisoners, Prisoners of Importance are held by Persons of Importance. Us schmucks might be tasked to hold equal schmucks.
a) any information a schmuck has is tactical only and is useless within 24 hours.
b) torture doesn’t work and generally only produces crap within the tactical window, i.e. 24 hours
c) always treat your prisoners the way you want your captured buddy treated. There is a direct relationship.
d) the purpose of holding/taking prisoners is to keep them off the battlefield, once held they are of little interest but do need to be cared for.
