Anyway, what I want to know is how they decided on 70 years. Why not 50 or 100? Was it supposed to be 100 because that would make a lot more sense and the boy got impatient?

To be honest, I’d get impatient too.  I believe I’ve told the story of my father and adopted grandfather finding the 1860’s cognac back in the 50’s. It’s not supposed to mellow in-bottle, but Dad used to rave about that cognac.
