The Economist:

Online social networks: Everywhere and nowhere. “No more logging on to Facebook just to see the ‘news feed’ of updates from your friends; instead it will come straight to your e-mail inbox, RSS reader or instant messenger. No need to upload photos to Facebook to show them to friends, since those with privacy permissions in your electronic address book can automatically get them.”

do you use facebook?  or myspace or friendfeed, or twitter?  or linked’in?

if i had a faster connection here in india i might try them, even with the targeted ads and privacy concerns.

i don’t need them for entertainment, but am wondering how functional they are for the professional side of your life

I belong to Facebook and LinkedIn, but neither do me much good at this point, professionally.  I agree with the writer of this article, that RSS should shortly replace any benefits these centralized services offer.
