Smashing Mag:

You knew the cartoony Web 2.0 look wouldn’t last long.  Grunge is making a rapprochement.

I’m not a fan of the grunge look. The Web 2.0 look is at least more functional and readable, so it’s tolerable.

I would like to see a trend move towards more UI simplicity, less mystery-navigation and more grid-based layouts.

I like when Web 2.0 approaches the old Apple philosophy of clean layout, smoothly rendered fonts, tasteful graphic embellishments.

We need a little more grunge, but not to the extent we saw a few years ago.  Certainly it’s not appropriate for business websites.

UI simplicity ... ah, the holy grail.  One person’s simplicity is another person’s Hades.  I have a situation right now for which I have to choose an open source simple CMS (easiest admin section, allowing for file uploads) for a particular client.  Knowing the client well, the choice is not simple.
