SF New Mexican:

Galisteo land grab.  Galisteo is a beautiful, historic, rural and tiny town that needs careful preservation.  With the development that’s going to happen on 285, less than a dozen miles away, the character of the area will be challenged.  If you read the article, you’ll wonder at Spanish colonial land grants.  The deed to my house (and this is so cool) goes back to the original grant from Spain’s King Philip II.  For Galisteo, there’s an older past; the valley is filled with more Anasazi ruins than Chaco, largely unexcavated.  History is very much a part of our present, in La Villa Real de la Santa Fé de San Francisco de Asís.
