NY Times:
Asian Inflation Begins to Sting U.S. Shoppers. The workmanship and overall quality of clothes in stores (all from overseas) is just so crappy, And expensive! I’m thinking of going to the Salvation Army to pick up older, better-made togs. I look at jeans, they’re made out of tissue paper ... surely this doesn’t qualify as ‘jean’ material. These wouldn’t last an afternoon picking posies, for goodness sake. You’re charging what for them? $65 bucks? Yer nuts. Shirts so badly sewn, you can lightly pull at the edges and cause the seams to unstitch. Expand your chest for a deep breath, hear the buttons pop off. Shopping for clothing has become an incredible waste of time and money.
Perhaps the down economy will hurt these retailers and manufacturers so much, they’ll reintroduce decently-made clothing ... or, simply invigorate quality control.
