NY Times: We aren’t honest about our listening habits.
New Ratings System for Radio Gives Guilty Pleasures a Boost. “That more men are mellowing out to Air Supply than are willing to admit it is a curious discovery, but the new system has serious repercussions, especially for classical radio. When 12 major areas, including New York and Los Angeles, switched to the system last year, classical radio’s market share fell 10.7 percent in those areas, a significant drop, according to a study by Research Director, a ratings consultancy.” Classical is a problem for me, because of the raucous advertisements that ruin the mood. One can’t appreciate quiet passages after being bombarded by obnoxious advertisements. So I don’t tune in.
[FWIW, I do NOT mellow out to Air Supply. Vangelis would be more my choice for mellow. No overly-earnest singers.]
