NY Times Washington:

Court Weighs Right to Guns, and Its Limits. As I’ve mentioned before, the ownership of military-grade weaponry is suspect.  During and after the Revolutionary War, America had armories to store firearms, field pieces - all the advanced weaponry brought over from France.  Do none of the Supremes remember Shay’s Rebellion, and the panic it instilled in many of our Founding Fathers? From what I can gather, our soldiers took their hunting pieces back home - not the fine French Charlevilles, which were copied and domestically manufactured at Harpers Ferry. Just as General Washington wouldn’t contemplate a private landowner keeping a howitzer, I doubt we should be allowing machine guns among the populace.
