Imagine you’re the budget person for the California Highway Patrol, and it’s your responsibility to make sure the agency’s 15,000+ fleet of gas-guzzling cruisers keeps motoring along uninterrupted....

The price of gas alone is going to start paralyzing all kinds of basic services, like law enforcement. Trash collection.

Easy money for cities? Not mineral rights - your average banal city planner cannot fathom the myriad of details to be attended in that arrangement. They’ll most likely be seduced by the siren song of privatization, or simply they’ll start hiking fees to the stratosphere.

“Honey, is this a parking violation or a down payment on a car?”
