John McPhee wrote a vignette in the ‘60s, “Travels in Georgia” (collected in Pieces of the Frame), about a young couple collecting roadkill along their travels—for meals. Their only standard was that the roadkill was recent. Snakes, deer, muskrats and other critters, all fair… game.
Made me think. Probably safer than ground beef these days.
