NPR: Humans Were Born To Run Barefoot.

I think it would be more accurate to say humans run sub-optimally in modern sneakers. It should be obvious we were ‘born to run barefoot.’ Note, and I quote, “I mean, I think we have to be really, really careful about what we do and don’t know. We have not done any injury studies; this is not an injury study.”

We were born to run barefoot when we weight 95 lbs and ran on dirt and grass and sand.  Weighing 180 lbs and running on concrete should be expected to change things.

I might try, though, running barefoot on the treadmill, to see if I can adapt to a forefoot strike style.  Moving from sea level to 7000 feet slowed me down by 45 seconds a mile, and made me much more of a heel-striker than I used to be.
