NPR: Another Delta news item.
Delta To Revamp Old Planes Instead Of Buying New. I would hope this is a red flag to the FAA to be sure inspections are done properly and on time ... ? We don’t want a repeat of the Southwest incident.
Comments:
Ever flown in Hawaii, inter-island? They strip the seats out of the 737s every night and carry cargo from island to island. You want to talk about filthy and beaten-to-death interiors ...
I’ve flown military transport.
I’ve also flown inter-island prop planes in the South Pacific where you basically sit on the floor next to cargo and live chickens. At least in the 1980s, this was true. I have no idea what it’s like nowadays.
I keep forgetting your experience in Samoa! I think I’d enjoy military transport, compared to modern security and entrapment on airliners.

This is a bit of an issue. Northwest (now Delta) notoriously flies the oldest fleet of all the U.S.-based airlines. The interiors of their planes are absolutely disgusting and poor, but I must admit that their maintenance track record is good.
Delta is doing everything they can to keep their costs down. We can only hope that if they want to fly old planes that they at least retrofit the interiors.
