Marketing Land: Google To Close Google Reader On July 1.
CNet has some alternatives. Anyone actually used and liked any of these?
Comments:
I sort of ‘backed’ into it, myself. But now that I’m parked in the Google garage, this lopping-off hurts. The earlier emasculation of the sharing feature was bad enough ...
I’ve been using Feedly for Firefox for a while. It currently uses Reader for the backend but they’re rolling out their own solution to take over in July. Flipboard is apparently safe as well, despite also depending on Reader.
As expected, Metafilter is all over this.
I’ve been using NetNewsWire for years, though it would be good for them to put out a statement on the consequences of this for users as they sync through Reader (and in fact NNW for iPad can only get new subscriptions through Reader…).
I’ve used NetNewsWire heavily, only recently (last 8 months) playing with Reeder. I think it’s reasonable to assume the market will make the appropriate adjustments. Perhaps we should all pool our results in a couple of months ... I’ll repost a link about feed readers, and we can compare our notes on what we’ve found/used.
Dave Winer uses River and I’m intrigued enough that I think I’ll try it over the weekend.
Happy π day, BTW.
Mmmmm, π.
Contemplating Fever. If I’m going to run something myself, I want something a little more capable. Watch their video before attempting an install, however. Kinda convoluted.

Next entry: Sunsets are so terribly cliché. >>
One of the downsides of Google’s low key approach is I never know what they have available until until the hoopla of it’s death.
