My A7R rental camera arrived this afternoon. I needed to look at a problem some customers were having mounting my straps to it and renting one (from lensrentals.com) was a good way to find out what the problem is. And since I’ve been interested in one I will be doing some testing this weekend. I rented adapters for Leica M mount and Nikon F mount. I did some quick shots this evening with my 55mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor. My one word review: HOLYCRAP!

Pixel peeping on the LCD is one thing. Making 16x20 prints will be something else. I will be comparing my Panasonic GH3 with the Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4 and the 55mm Micro Nikkor on the A7R. I will be trying out Nikkor lenses from 20mm to 300mm. 16x20 prints will be what I use for judging.

I see this, at least for me, as a specialist camera. I would be using it with Nikkor AI and AIS manual lenses on a tripod to get the full usage of the resolution. It would be a poor man’s medium format camera. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Stay tuned.

It’s so close to exactly what I’m looking for - I’ll look forward to your review of it.

Also, I didn’t know LensRentals had it available.  I’ll have to rent one too!  THANKS.
