ABQ Journal:
Cloud Cliff Bakery, closing. “Revenue has shrunk from as much as $900,000 several years ago to between $300,000 and $400,000 today.” One of the best breakfasts you could get in Santa Fe, and the bakery supplied many groceries in the area. The location made the restaurant more of a locals’ spot than a tourist-serving business. Media is choosing to hinge the issue primarily on the living wage, when food prices and the general economy also contribute: “… the economy is faltering, he explained. People are eating out less, and the customers who once drank lattes now order coffee instead.”
Cloud Cliff isn’t alone. Food, energy and labor costs are getting everyone: Chadd’s Ford and other restaurants in PA. The major chains, too.

This guy doesn’t sound credible to me. Such a severe revenue drop (900k to 300k) doesn’t happen because of price increases to cover a $2-3 wage increase. Maybe a good share of his customers voted with their feet because they didn’t agree with his opposition to paying a decent wage to his workers.
Harry’s has extended their kitchen. IMHO, their attention to detail has slipped a bit of late ... altho I’ve been there in between lunch and dinner shifts the last few times, which can be a toss-up anyway.
Still, when I have some time to eat out, I find myself going elsewhere lately.
