44 years ago, Apollo 1 was destroyed by fire.

Backstory. Everything ends up on the internet eventually: images of their spacesuit remnants have ended up online. At the time, I thought all three’d been burned to ash by the oxygen fire. Apparently not. Not sure which death is worse. Godspeed, guys - we remember you.

I thought twice about posting the images, but we are curious creatures. I’d always wondered what was left of my heroes (I particularly thought Ed White was an amazing guy, having taken the first spacewalk).

I will never forget that event.  Was watching something on the T.V. when the flash news bulletin came, to me it felt as bad as President Kennedy’s asassination.  Makes me sick just to remember it.
