i'm giddy. must be the heat. i'll leave you folks to enjoy the rest of your 'weekend' ...

so much to do, in a short summer!

so a quick trip to the store, some fresh green chili stew, some fat tire ale ... and i'm set for the night. now to keep the energy up during the week. my goal is to get back into the shape i was a couple of years ago, doing centuries on a monthly basis. at the very least, i have to beat my friend's time from downtown santa fe to the top of the ski basin (2-3000 feet in elevation gain, 16 miles). he was in excellent shape and did it in an hour and twenty minutes. or, maybe contemplate the "hotter 'n' hell hundred" down in texas ... but if i do that, i need significantly more *tan* than the lobster red i have right now ...

laying stone is all rhythm and zen. william 'least heat' moon is right; work with stone, and you feel the stone making decisions for you. it's uncanny.

well, i'm back in the house now. it's been an interesting weekend all around. best three-day holiday i've had in a while. i have contusions on just about every part of my body, a blistering sunburn, and a semi-permanent grin tattooed in the middle of my face. today ended with doing some 'courtyard' work. seems our 'grass' is not spreading ... that is, we have crabgrass and bare ground. looks like a job for 'gravel man' ... but that'll reflect too much heat into the house. so, i think i'm going to belt the courtyard with sod, creating designed walkways with gravel (have to decide on color; light color reflects heat, stores less). in anticipation of that, i did some stone laying. the one stone flowerbed we had was piled high with 'moss rock'; rock with attractive lichens on it. i've spent the last three hours pumping stone, getting two other beds built with the excess of stone. some were so heavy, the only recourse was to roll them across the ground. some stones are bloodied (mine), but they are in place now, and look great. now, in go some hyssop, nicotiana, sage, rosemary and a host of other things that either a) smell good or b) taste good. gardening has to have a payoff in this household ...

andrea, i want to drive that train. check the amsterdam shots, and the scripting news/blogger dinner shots. [that is, if you haven't already ...]

oh, and yes, i know the css layout 'breaks' without enough text in the 'content' area of the page. no need for a flurry of emails.

i'm busily finding ways to make those last, few parts of my body as sore as all the others ... (grin) ...

i sincerely hope the rest of you are having fun, and not spending time 'with the silicon.'

still 'not-weblogging.' i'll be back to normal scheduling tomorrow. too much mischief to get into ...
