cnn: emmylou is back on the road. great! hope she makes it to santa fe ...

taking a bit of a break; time for some babble.

it's gotten *freaking* cold here in santa fe. a day and a half ago, i was sweating to death in my office space ... today, i'm wearing a woolshirt! it's the official beginning of fall in the high desert! this is when we start picking tourists out of the mountains with hypothermia. i drive around with three seasons worth of clothing ... i wear short sleeves under a long shirt, with a jacket or coat in the car.

sandra was nice enough to take my cowboy boots to the repair shop ... four pairs have hit the skids over the last month. the dry air makes the glue in the heels separate. one pair are the eelskins i got married in nine years ago, and the other are my favorite bullhides ... i bought 'em when i was 18 while working at big bend national park. they're old, ugly ... and so comfortable i'll bawl my eyes out the day they finally bite the dust.

i see hal's getting his teeth worked over. i've got to go in for some voluntary torture myself. ativan! let me sleep through it. i'm allergic to the sound of high speed drills ...

okay, enough babble. i'll leave you folks to your normal surfing again.

philly inquirer: a trip to greenland to look for traces of earth's earliest life forms. for some reason, this brings to mind 'journey to the center of the earth' and scartaris ...

oh no! craig's got the 'sticker' disease, too.

cnn: $60 million for nothing.

cnn: inequality hurts all of us. what horrifies me is the violence aspect. i urge you to support local rape crisis centers and other women's organizations. [actually, sandra and i are helping at an event this saturday night ...]
